Malvern stretches along the eastern side of the Malvern Hills, with Great Malvern as its town centre and Malvern Link to the north. Around 30,500 people lived in Malvern parish at the 2021 Census,[2] out of 79,486 in the wider Malvern Hills district.[1] The hills, home to the British Camp hillfort,[7] form part of a National Landscape that covers parts of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire,[6] and Malvern’s WR13 and WR14 postcodes cross into Herefordshire as well,[8] so plenty of Malvern firms serve customers in more than one county.
Malvern Hills District Council names cybersecurity, information and communications technology, advanced manufacturing, hospitality and the visitor economy among the district’s strengths, and counts over 1,000 jobs at Malvern Hills Science Park and QinetiQ alone.[3] The science park describes its home, next to QinetiQ, as Cyber Valley.[4] Visitors matter too: the council valued the district’s visitor economy at £156m by the end of 2021, with more than 3,500 people working in it,[3] and accommodation and food services account for 10.9% of jobs here, against 7.6% across England.[5]
