02What is it?
What is local SEO for multiple locations?
Local SEO for multiple locations is making sure each branch of a business can be found by people searching near it, with its own Google Business Profile, its own page and its own reviews, all kept consistent.
Google treats each real location separately, and distance from the person searching is one of the three things it says local results are based on. With every extra branch come more chances of duplicate profiles, mismatched details and town pages that all say the same thing. Planning the pages yourself? Our guide to service and location pages covers what Google allows.
What Google says
“Do not create more than one page for each location of your business, either in a single account or multiple accounts.”
- If a profile is considered a duplicate, it won’t show on Google Search or Maps.
- A virtual office isn’t eligible for a Business Profile.
- Google asks for a phone number or website that represents your individual business location.
03What we do
Six jobs that keep every branch found.
One profile per real location
We find every listing you have, including old and duplicate ones, then make sure each staffed branch has one verified profile. Your business stays the owner, with us added as a manager.
The same details everywhere
Each branch’s name, address, phone number and hours matching across its profile, its page and the directories it’s listed on, with a local number rather than one central helpline.
A proper page for each branch
Address, hours, directions, the services and people at that branch and what’s specific about the area, with the branch’s profile linking straight to it. It’s how we built our own office pages.
No doorway pages
Pages for real branches, plus pages for other towns only where there’s something true and specific to say. Never a set of near-identical pages with the town name swapped.
Reviews for each branch
Each branch’s profile collects its own reviews, so each gets its own review link, the same neutral request to every customer and replies from someone who knows that branch.
Reporting by location
Profile activity for each branch, such as calls, website clicks and direction requests, alongside a log of enquiries by branch, so you can see which locations need attention.
Every branch needs its profile done properly, so see our Google Business Profile management and Google review management. Trades with more than one depot may also want our local SEO for tradespeople.
04What we won’t do
No shortcuts. Nothing that puts a branch at risk.
Some multi-location tactics break Google’s Business Profile guidelines or its spam policies, and a problem on one account can affect every profile on it. Here’s what we leave out.
- Virtual offices to fake a branch Google says a virtual office isn’t eligible for a Business Profile.
- A profile for each service Google treats several profiles for one business offering different services as duplicates.
- Town pages with the name swapped Google names “substantially similar pages” as an example of doorway abuse.
- One call-centre number on every profile Google asks for a local number instead of a central helpline wherever possible.
- A new profile when a branch moves Google’s general rule is to update the existing profile with the new address.
- Promising every branch the top spot Google says there’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.
05Questions
Multiple locations, straight answers.
What business owners with more than one branch ask us about local SEO, including profiles, pages, duplicates and reporting.
What is local SEO for multiple locations?
Local SEO for multiple locations is making sure each branch, clinic or office of a business can be found by people searching near it. Each real location gets its own Google Business Profile, a proper page on your website, its own reviews and consistent details everywhere it’s listed, and you get reporting you can read branch by branch.
Do you do multi-location local SEO for businesses in Worcester?
Yes. Get Found is a local SEO agency based at 39 Foregate St, Worcester, with a second office in Stockport, and we work with businesses across the UK. Having two offices ourselves, we deal with the same questions on our own site. Multi-location work is part of our local SEO service. Every project starts with a free visibility audit, and there are no long contracts.
Does each branch need its own Google Business Profile?
Each real location does, and only one each. Google says not to create more than one profile for each location, in one account or several. A location needs to be genuine: Google says a virtual office isn’t eligible. If you run a service business from several bases with separate service areas and separate staff at each, Google allows one profile for each location.
Do we need a page on our website for every location?
Each real branch should have a page that represents it, and Google asks for a website that represents your individual business location on each profile. For towns where you don’t have a branch, a page only earns its place if it says something true and specific. Google’s spam policy names near-identical pages made to rank for different towns as doorway abuse, and Google publishes no set number of pages.
What happens to duplicate listings?
Google says a profile considered a duplicate won’t show on Search or Maps, so duplicates can hide a branch rather than help it. They can often be merged, with reviews combined, though Google says replies to reviews may be lost. Removing the wrong one deletes its content and managers, so we check carefully before anything is removed.
Who should own the profiles, head office or the branches?
Your business should own them. Google lets a profile have several owners but only one primary owner, and managers who can do most things except add or remove users or delete the profile. Each person needs their own Google Account, so nobody shares passwords. We’re added as a manager, and Google’s rules for agencies say you can take back full control whenever you ask.
How do you report on each location?
Each verified profile has its own performance data, including how many times people tapped to call, clicked through to your website or asked for directions. Google combines organic and ad activity in those figures and counts taps rather than answered calls, so we pair them with a log of enquiries by branch. That shows which locations are doing well and which need work.
Can you guarantee every branch will rank?
No, and nobody honestly can. Google says there’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking, and distance from the person searching is part of how it decides. What we can do is make sure every branch is set up correctly, consistently and within Google’s rules, and show you how each one is doing.
Rather talk it through? You’ll speak to the local team, not a call centre.
