02What is it?
What is Google review management?
Google review management is setting up and running a simple, rule-abiding routine for your Google reviews: asking every customer, replying well, and dealing properly with the reviews that break the rules.
Google says reviews can help your local ranking, and its Gemini app reads ratings from Google Maps when people ask about places. But the most visible advice online includes tactics that break Google’s rules and, in the UK, can now break the law. Doing it yourself? Our guide to getting more Google reviews covers the link, the QR code and what to say.
The rules
Businesses must not “selectively solicit positive reviews from customers.”
- Google bans incentives of any kind for posting, changing or removing reviews.
- Since April 2025, UK law has banned fake reviews and hidden incentivised reviews.
- The CMA can fine businesses up to 10% of global turnover for breaking consumer law.
03What we do
Six jobs for a steady flow of reviews.
Review link and QR code, set up for you
A direct link to your review form and Google’s own QR code, saved where you can use them in seconds: invoices, receipts, email signatures, saved replies and a card by the till.
An ask that reaches every customer
The request built into something everyone already gets, such as the invoice, receipt or follow-up message, so nobody has to remember and nobody is picked out.
Wording that stays neutral
Short requests for honest feedback, in your own voice. Never “5 stars”, never naming staff or keywords, and nothing offered in return.
Replies to your reviews
Brief, professional replies that sound like a person, and a calm plan for negative reviews: no private details, no arguments, an apology where it’s due.
Problem reviews reported
Fake, abusive or off-topic reviews reported to Google, and a clear plan if you’re ever hit by a review extortion scam: don’t pay, keep evidence, report it.
Kept steady
A routine that keeps working without anyone having to remember it, checked whenever Google changes its menus or you change how you invoice or message customers.
Reviews work best alongside a complete profile, so see our Google Business Profile management too. For how reviews fit into the map results, see our guide to the Google 3-pack.
04What we won’t do
No shortcuts. No risks with your reviews.
Several popular review tactics break Google’s policy, and some cause problems under UK law. Google can remove reviews, block new ones and put a warning on your profile, so here’s what we leave out.
- Discounts or freebies for reviews Google bans incentives of any kind, disclosed or not.
- Review gating Surveying customers first and only sending the link to high scorers is selective asking, banned by Google.
- Reviews from staff, family or partners Google treats these as a conflict of interest.
- Asking for five stars or named staff Google’s policy forbids asking for specific ratings or content.
- Writing or buying reviews Fake reviews are banned by Google and, since April 2025, by UK law.
- Promising bad reviews will vanish Google doesn’t remove genuine reviews because a business disagrees with them.
05Questions
Google reviews, straight answers.
What local business owners ask us about reviews, including incentives, bad reviews and what the rules allow.
What is Google review management?
Google review management is setting up and running a simple, rule-abiding routine for your Google reviews: a direct review link and QR code, a neutral request that goes to every customer, prompt and professional replies, and reporting reviews that break Google’s policy. It’s about getting a steady flow of genuine reviews, not buying, writing or filtering them.
Do you manage Google reviews for businesses in Worcester?
Yes. Get Found is a local SEO agency based at 39 Foregate St, Worcester, with a second office in Stockport, and we help businesses across the UK with their Google reviews. Review management is part of our local SEO service. Every project starts with a free visibility audit, and there are no long contracts.
Do Google reviews help my local ranking?
They can. Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and popularity, and that reviews can help your business’s local ranking. It also says there’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking, so reviews help but nobody can promise you a position for them. Reviews also matter to customers comparing businesses, and Google’s Gemini app uses ratings from Google Maps when people ask it about places.
Can I offer a discount or prize for a Google review?
No. Google’s policy bans offering anything in return for posting, changing or removing a review, whether or not you disclose it. UK law under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 also bans hidden incentivised reviews. Because these are Google reviews, the stricter rule applies, so offer nothing at all.
Can I only ask happy customers for a review?
No. Google’s policy says businesses must not selectively solicit positive reviews, and the UK regulator’s guidance describes encouraging only satisfied customers as cherry-picking that may break consumer law. The safe way is to build the request into something every customer receives, such as the invoice, receipt or standard follow-up message.
Can you remove a bad Google review?
Not if it’s a genuine review you disagree with. Google says it doesn’t get involved in disputes between businesses and customers. What we can do is help you reply calmly and professionally, and report reviews that break Google’s policy, such as fake, abusive or off-topic reviews or ones from someone with a conflict of interest. Google decides whether to remove them.
Do you write or buy reviews?
Never. Fake reviews are banned by Google and by UK law since April 2025. Google can remove reviews, block new ones and show a warning on the profile of businesses caught breaking its rules, and the Competition and Markets Authority can fine businesses up to 10% of their global turnover for breaking consumer law. We help you get genuine reviews from real customers, nothing else.
