ChatGPT SEO Be the business it names.

Get Found helps local businesses get found and named by ChatGPT, from our office in Worcester, working with businesses across the UK. When a customer asks ChatGPT for a good plumber, dentist or accountant in their town, it often searches the web and names the businesses with the most evidence behind them. We build that evidence properly, as part of our AI SEO service.

02What is it?

What is ChatGPT SEO?

ChatGPT SEO is the work of making your business one that ChatGPT can find, trust and name when someone asks it for a recommendation.

For a question like “best electrician in Worcester”, ChatGPT often searches the web, rewrites the question into something like “top electrician Worcester”, and names the businesses that websites, listings, reviews and “best of” pages back up. It’s one part of AI SEO, alongside answer engine optimisation and generative engine optimisation. Seeing a rival named instead? Our guide to why ChatGPT recommends your competitor shows how to check fairly and what to fix.

What OpenAI says

Sites that block OAI-SearchBot “will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers.”
  • ChatGPT may search the web automatically when a question would benefit from current information.
  • It can use your approximate location to find local results.
  • Search results and citations “can be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect”.

03What we do

Six jobs that get you into the answer.

  • Check what ChatGPT says now

Real customer questions, always naming the town, run many times in ChatGPT and the other main AI tools. We tally who gets named and which sources the answers cite, because one answer tells you very little.

  • Let OpenAI’s search crawler in

OpenAI says sites that block OAI-SearchBot won’t be shown in ChatGPT search answers. We check your robots.txt and keep it separate from GPTBot, the training crawler, which is a different decision.

  • Listings complete and consistent

Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple and the directories that matter in your trade, with the same name, address, phone number and hours everywhere. ChatGPT uses search partners and listings providers it doesn’t name, so every major listing needs to be right.

  • Reviews, asked for the right way

A routine for asking every customer and replying to every complaint. Never bought, never rewarded, never only the happy ones.

  • A website that says what and where

A clear page for each main service, the towns you cover written in plain text, and answers to the questions customers ask on the phone, so there’s something relevant when ChatGPT searches “[trade] [town]”.

  • Mentions, and the wrong facts fixed

Earned places on the local lists, directories and pages ChatGPT keeps citing, and any out-of-date details traced back to their source and corrected there.

Most of this is good local SEO done thoroughly, which is why it helps on Google too. For the Google side of AI search, see Google AI Overview optimisation, and to see where you stand, our AI visibility audit.

04What we won’t do

No hacks. No guarantees.

ChatGPT SEO attracts a lot of confident promises. Here’s what we leave out, and why.

  • Guaranteed ChatGPT placement Nobody outside OpenAI decides what ChatGPT says, and its answers change from one run to the next.
  • “Best in town” lists that rank us first Publishing a roundup that crowns yourself undermines the trust you’re trying to build.
  • Fake or rewarded reviews Banned by Google’s policies and, for fake reviews, by UK law since April 2025.
  • Guessing at ChatGPT’s data sources OpenAI doesn’t name its listings providers, so we keep every major listing right instead of betting on one.
  • “AI files” sold as must-haves Google says no special files or schema are needed for its AI features. The basics come first.
  • A set number of weeks AI tools re-read the web on their own schedules. We report what changes, not a promised date.

05Questions

ChatGPT SEO, straight answers.

What local business owners ask us about ChatGPT, including why it names a competitor and what nobody can promise.

What is ChatGPT SEO?

ChatGPT SEO is the work of making your business one that ChatGPT can find, trust and name when someone asks it for a recommendation, such as “who’s a good electrician in Worcester?”. For questions like that, ChatGPT often searches the web first, so it covers the things that search draws on: your website, your business listings, your reviews and what other sites say about you. It’s part of what’s also called AI SEO, AEO or GEO.

Are you a ChatGPT SEO agency in Worcester?

Yes. Get Found is an AI SEO and local SEO agency based at 39 Foregate St, Worcester, with a second office in Stockport, and we work with businesses across the UK. ChatGPT SEO is part of our AI SEO service. Every project starts with a free visibility audit, which includes checking what the main AI tools say about your business, and there are no long contracts.

How does ChatGPT choose which local business to recommend?

OpenAI says ChatGPT may search the web automatically when a question would benefit from current information, and it can use your approximate location to find local results. It rewrites the question into something like “top electrician Worcester”, uses search partners and unnamed listings providers, and writes its answer from what it finds. So the businesses it names tend to be the ones with the most evidence online: clear websites, complete listings, reviews and mentions on other sites.

Why does ChatGPT recommend my competitor and not me?

Usually because there’s more evidence about them online. They may appear in the “best of” lists and directories ChatGPT reads, have more complete and consistent listings, more recent reviews, or a website that says plainly what they do and where. Sometimes your website is blocking OpenAI’s search crawler, or ChatGPT has out-of-date facts about you. A proper check across many answers shows which it is.

Does blocking GPTBot stop my business appearing in ChatGPT?

Not directly. GPTBot is the crawler OpenAI uses to gather material for training future models. The one that matters for ChatGPT search is OAI-SearchBot: OpenAI says sites that block it will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers. You can check your robots.txt file to see which crawlers your website allows.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No, and be wary of anyone who says they can. Nobody outside OpenAI controls what ChatGPT says, and its answers change with the wording, the person’s location and the day. What we can do is strengthen the signals ChatGPT relies on, fix anything holding you back, and show you honestly how often you’re named over time.

How long does ChatGPT SEO take?

There’s no reliable timetable. AI tools re-read the web on their own schedules, and OpenAI says changes to robots.txt take about 24 hours just to be picked up by its crawler. Anyone quoting a set number of days or weeks until ChatGPT recommends you is guessing.

How do you measure ChatGPT visibility?

We agree a set of questions that match how your customers actually ask, always naming the town, run them repeatedly in ChatGPT and the other main AI tools, and record how often you’re named and which sources the answers cite. We also look for visits from chatgpt.com in your analytics, because OpenAI tags links it sends with utm_source=chatgpt.com. Because answers vary, we report the trend across many checks rather than a single screenshot.
