AI visibility audit See who the AI tools name, and why.
Get Found runs an AI visibility audit for local businesses from our office in Worcester, working with businesses across the UK. We ask ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot the questions your customers ask, many times over, and record who gets named, which sources the answers rely on and what’s missing for you. It’s done for you, not another tool to log into, and it’s part of our AI SEO service. Our free visibility audit includes a first AI check.

02What is it?
What is an AI visibility audit?
An AI visibility audit is a repeated, structured check of whether AI tools name your business when people ask for what you do in your town, which sources they rely on, and what’s stopping them naming you.
AI answers change from one run to the next, so one screenshot proves very little. Plenty of software will track prompts for you; this is different, because the people who do the fixing run the checks and tell you what to change. Want to try a check yourself first? Our guide to why ChatGPT recommends your competitor shows how to do it fairly, and AI SEO, GEO and AEO explained untangles the jargon.
The research
Ask an AI tool for a list of brands twice and there’s less than a 1 in 100 chance of getting the same list.
- SparkToro and Gumshoe.ai had 600 volunteers run prompts 2,961 times across ChatGPT, Claude and Google’s AI. The same list in the same order came up less than 1 in 1,000 times.
- OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot “will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers”.
- ChatGPT adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to links it sends, so those visits can be counted in Google Analytics.
03What we do
Six jobs that show where the AI tools leave you out.
Questions agreed with you
A set of questions in your customers’ words, not your marketing copy, covering your main services and the places you work. Every one names the town, so a guessed location can’t skew the answer.
Every main AI tool, run repeatedly
Each question goes into ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot several times, with memory off, because the answers shift from run to run.
Named, cited or missing
For every answer we note whether you were named, whether your website was cited as a source, or neither, and which competitors appeared instead. The share of runs is the number that matters.
The sources behind the answers
A list of the websites, directories and local pages the answers keep citing, so you can see where the AI tools are reading and where you’re absent.
Crawlers, listings, reviews and website
We check robots.txt and your hosting let in the search crawlers, such as OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot, then look at your listings, reviews and pages for the gaps the tally points to, with fixes in order.
Repeated, with the trend
The same questions, run the same way at regular intervals, so you see whether you’re named more often over time, alongside visits from chatgpt.com in your analytics.
The audit is where our ChatGPT SEO and AI Overview optimisation work starts, and many of the fixes it points to are ordinary local SEO done properly.
04What we won’t do
No screenshots. No made-up scores.
Research from SparkToro and Gumshoe.ai found AI tools almost never give the same list twice, so a report built on one answer can mislead. Here’s what we leave out.
- One-off screenshots A single answer tells you very little when the lists rarely repeat.
- A mystery “AI score” You get the tally and the sources behind it, not a number nobody can explain.
- Checks shaped by your own history ChatGPT can use your location and memory, so we name the town and keep memory off.
- Claims of inside knowledge Google says no third-party tool has access to its internal ranking or AI systems.
- Another software subscription The audit is done for you, so there’s no dashboard to learn or prompts to set up.
- Guaranteed mentions or set timescales Nobody outside the AI companies decides what their tools say, or when they re-read the web.
05Questions
AI visibility audits, straight answers.
What local business owners ask us about AI visibility audits, including which tools we check and what you get.
What is an AI visibility audit?
An AI visibility audit is a structured check of whether AI tools name your business when people ask for what you do in your town. We agree a set of customer-style questions, run them repeatedly across the main AI tools, and record how often you’re named or cited, who appears instead and which sources the answers rely on. Then we check the things that could be holding you back, such as crawler access, listings, reviews and your website.
Do you run AI visibility audits for businesses in Worcester?
Yes. Get Found is based at 39 Foregate St, Worcester, with a second office in Stockport, and we work with businesses across the UK. The AI visibility audit is part of our AI SEO service. Every project starts with a free visibility audit, which includes a first check of what the main AI tools say about your business, and there are no long contracts.
Is this an AI visibility tool or a free checker?
No. There are plenty of AI visibility tools that track prompts for you to read. Ours is a done-for-you check: we run the questions, read the answers and the sources, and tell you what to fix. If you want to start for free, our free visibility audit includes a first AI check, where we ask the AI tools about your trade and town and see who they name.
Which AI tools do you check?
ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot. They don’t all work the same way. For example, OpenAI says ChatGPT may search the web when a question needs current information and can use location to find local results, while Google says its Gemini app uses public Google Maps information. So a business can be named by one tool and missed by another.
Why do you ask the same question more than once?
Because AI answers vary a lot. In research by SparkToro and Gumshoe.ai, 600 volunteers ran prompts 2,961 times across ChatGPT, Claude and Google’s AI, and there was less than a 1 in 100 chance of the same list of brands coming up twice. That study covered consumer brands rather than local businesses, but the lesson carries: what matters is how often you’re named across many runs, not one answer.
What do I get from the audit?
A tally of how often each AI tool named or cited you across the agreed questions, which competitors appeared instead, and the sources the answers kept citing. You also get the results of our crawler check, the gaps we found in your listings, reviews and website, and the fixes we’d make first. We repeat the checks at regular intervals and report the trend, along with visits from chatgpt.com, which OpenAI tags with utm_source=chatgpt.com.
Does blocking AI crawlers affect the audit results?
It can. OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers, and Perplexity says PerplexityBot is the crawler that surfaces and links websites in its results. GPTBot is OpenAI’s training crawler and a separate decision. So part of every audit is checking your robots.txt and hosting aren’t blocking the crawlers that search features use.
Can you guarantee the AI tools will name my business after the audit?
No, and nobody honestly can. Nobody outside OpenAI, Google, Microsoft or Perplexity decides what their tools say, and the answers change from run to run. The audit shows where you stand and what’s worth fixing, and repeating it shows whether you’re being named more often over time.
Rather talk it through? You’ll speak to the local team, not a call centre.
